Review of Fscreen Fresnel Fixed Frame Projection Screen and Valerion VisionMaster Pro 2
The Valerion series has been a hot topic among projection enthusiasts worldwide since the beginning of this year. As a leading manufacturer of projection screens, Fscreen acquired one of the projectors in this series to evaluate its performance with our Fresnel Fixed Frame Projection Screen.
For those unfamiliar with the brand Valerion, it is a sister brand of AWOL VISION—a name that may be more recognizable in the American market. AWOL VISION has launched several well-regarded ultra short throw (UST) projectors, such as the AWOL LTV-2500 and LTV-3500 Pro. While AWOL VISION focuses on UST projector development, the Valerion brand was created to specialize in long throw projector research and development.
You may have already come across several reviews of the Valerion series. The lineup consists of five models: PLUS, PLUS 2, PRO, PRO 2, and MAX. We were fortunate to get our hands on the PRO 2 model. Valerion introduced the series with bold confidence, branding it as "The Highest-Funded Projector in Crowdfunding History." Naturally, we were eager to test how it performs with our premium Fresnel projection screen.
According to its product page, the VisionMaster PRO 2 is a 4K RGB triple-laser projector that boasts high brightness, vibrant color reproduction, and high contrast. Upon unboxing, the sleek and modern design immediately caught our eye - it certainly looks promising. The unit weighs approximately 7 kilograms, reflecting its high standards in materials and structural design.
Setup and Testing Environment
To provide a realistic performance assessment, we placed the VisionMaster Pro 2 in a medium-sized living room. The room included moderate ambient lighting during the day and full blackout capability for nighttime viewing. Our Fresnel Fixed Frame Projection Screen was mounted at eye level, and the projector was placed approximately 1.5 meters away, simulating a typical home theater setup.
We ran the projector through a series of content tests, including 4K HDR movies, high-definition photographs, and fast-motion video clips. All content was played through a USB. This setup allowed us to test a range of visual scenarios and lighting conditions to fully evaluate performance.
Visual Performance
The VisionMaster Pro 2 immediately impressed us with its image clarity and vibrant visuals. Powered by a 4K RGB triple-laser light engine, it delivered sharp, richly detailed images across various types of content—from vivid nature documentaries to fast-paced cinematic scenes—all displayed beautifully on our screen.
We tested the setup in both lights-on and lights-off environments. In well-lit conditions, the projector maintained excellent brightness, a testament to its high-lumen output and the Fresnel screen's ALR technology. This combination effectively minimized the impact of ambient light, making it highly suitable for multi-purpose rooms where complete darkness isn't always feasible.
With the lights off, the performance stepped up even further. Colors appeared deeper and more saturated, and contrast levels became even more pronounced. The triple-laser system ensured an exceptionally wide and accurate color gamut. Colors were natural, vibrant, and well-balanced—adding realism to live-action content and depth to animated scenes. Subtle gradients and tonal transitions were handled smoothly, revealing fine details that might otherwise be lost.
Contrast was another standout feature. Deep blacks and bright highlights created excellent dynamic range, particularly when viewing HDR content. The Fresnel screen enhanced this effect by reducing ambient light scatter and preserving black levels, contributing to a truly cinematic experience.
Compatibility with the Fresnel Screen
The synergy between the Valerion VisionMaster Pro 2 and Fscreen's Fresnel Fixed Frame Projection Screen was exceptional. The long-throw nature of the PRO 2 allowed for greater flexibility in placement without compromising the quality of the visuals. In fact, when paired with the Fresnel screen, the performance improved dramatically, enhancing both the image clarity and overall viewing experience.
The Fresnel lens structure played a crucial role in amplifying the contrast. By focusing light directly toward the viewer while rejecting ambient light from the sides and above, the Fresnel screen significantly boosted the perceived contrast, delivering deeper blacks and brighter highlights. This made for a much more immersive and cinematic experience, particularly in HDR content.
Additionally, the Fresnel screen helped to eliminate hotspotting, an issue commonly associated with high-lumen projectors. The even light distribution across the screen surface ensured that the image remained balanced and high-quality throughout, without any noticeable brightness inconsistencies, even in the most demanding viewing scenarios.
Mounting and alignment were straightforward, and we experienced no syncing issues or edge distortion during our tests. This flawless compatibility with the Fresnel screen reinforces the idea that when paired with a premium Fresnel screen, a high-performance projector like the VisionMaster Pro 2 reaches its full potential, providing an enhanced visual experience that's far superior to standard setups.
User Experience
From a usability standpoint, the VisionMaster Pro 2 was smooth and intuitive. Its menu system was responsive and user-friendly, with a wide range of picture adjustment options for fine-tuning. Connectivity options were generous, including multiple HDMI ports, USB inputs, and wireless streaming capabilities.
Built-in speakers were serviceable for casual viewing, though external audio is recommended for the full home theater experience.
Final Verdict
The combination of the Valerion VisionMaster Pro 2 and Fscreen's Fresnel Fixed Frame Projection Screen delivered a top-tier projection experience. The PRO 2's triple-laser technology, 4K resolution, and high brightness output were fully realized through the Fresnel screen's ability to enhance contrast and minimize ambient light interference.
This setup is ideal for home theater enthusiasts who want large-format, high-quality visuals without needing to completely darken their room. It's also a compelling option for anyone upgrading from a traditional white screen or lower-end projector.
In summary, the Valerion VisionMaster Pro 2 lives up to much of the hype, and when paired with a high-performance Fresnel screen like ours, it offers a cinema-quality experience that rivals much more expensive solutions.
